The Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced today that it has issued 5,136 notices for various traffic offences during its "7 Big Sins" special operation. The crackdown, which focused on major violations such as crossing red lights, not wearing seatbelts, and overtaking on double lines, was conducted across the state to ensure road safety following the Chinese New Year festive period.

A total of 38,135 vehicles were inspected during the operation, which ran from February 13 to February 22. Beyond the notices, authorities also impounded 59 vehicles for serious offences that posed an immediate danger to other road users. The high number of violations has prompted the department to maintain a heightened presence on major highways for the remainder of the month.

This operation coincides with the rollout of a new fixed, time-based discount structure for traffic summonses, which aims to encourage motorists to settle their fines within 15 days for a 50% discount. Officials are urging the public to take advantage of this system to clear the millions of outstanding summonses that currently remain unpaid nationwide.
