The Federal Court has officially dismissed an application by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to recuse three out of the five judges presiding over her final appeal in the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project corruption case. Her legal team had sought the removal of Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and two other judges, citing concerns of perceived bias. However, the five-member bench unanimously ruled that the application lacked merit and that the grounds provided did not meet the legal threshold for a "real danger of bias."
This decision clears a major procedural hurdle, allowing the Federal Court to proceed with the substantive hearing of her appeal against her 10-year prison sentence and RM970 million fine. Rosmah was convicted in 2022 of soliciting and receiving bribes in exchange for helping a company secure a project to supply solar energy to 369 rural schools in Sarawak. Legal observers note that with this recusal bid settled, the focus now returns entirely to the merits of her corruption conviction.
