Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong informed the Dewan Rakyat today that the federal government expects to collect approximately RM212 billion in tax revenue for the year 2026. This optimistic projection is primarily driven by stronger wage growth, resilient corporate earnings, and improved tax compliance through the phased implementation of e-invoicing. Liew noted that individual income tax is expected to rise by 9.4% to reach RM49.07 billion, while corporate income tax is projected to hit RM103.35 billion.

The revenue boost is also attributed to the civil service salary adjustments under the Public Service Remuneration System and a low national unemployment rate. Additionally, Sales Tax is forecast to generate RM26.6 billion, with Service Tax projected at RM33 billion. Liew highlighted that the government's focus on digitalizing tax collection through e-invoices, which began in August 2024, has been instrumental in curbing leakages and strengthening the nation's fiscal position as it moves toward the second half of 2026.
