Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin confirmed on March 3, 2026, that he is in discussions to take over Parti Keluarga Malaysia. This move follows his recent expulsion from Bersatu and is intended to provide a new political platform for himself and several other sacked MPs, including Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan. Hamzah described the current negotiations as focusing on complex technical matters, including adjustments to the party's constitution.
The party's founder, Khairi Jaya, stated that preparations are "90% confirmed" to pave the way for Hamzah to assume the top leadership post. According to the Malay Mail, once Hamzah and his allies officially join, an internal election will be held to formalize his presidency. Khairi confirmed he has met with the former Bersatu leaders multiple times to finalize these arrangements.
Despite these developments, Hamzah remains the Opposition Leader for the time being, as confirmed by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker. However, Perikatan Nasional is expected to name a new opposition leader on March 14, following Hamzah's ouster from his previous party. The takeover is viewed as a strategic step to maintain his political influence ahead of the next general election.
