Promoting grassroots sports and community health, the Sunsuron Fun Run was held in Keningau, Sabah, drawing 427 participants including students, parents, and educators. The event, held in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee of SK Sunsuron, featured 3km and 5km routes aimed at fostering a culture of active living among the local community.
The run was supported by various agencies including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Health (KKM), highlighting a multi-sectoral approach to community sports. Such local events are increasingly being used as platforms to identify raw athletic talent in rural areas who could eventually enter national development programs.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who was involved in the event's coordination, emphasized that community-led sporting initiatives are essential for social cohesion and long-term public health. The success of the Sunsuron run is expected to pave the way for similar district-level athletic events across Sabah this year.
