In a landmark legal blow to the current U.S. administration, the Supreme Court has officially struck down the sweeping federal tariffs previously imposed by President Trump. The court ruled that the executive branch overstepped its constitutional authority in implementing the broad import duties without sufficient congressional oversight. This ruling effectively halts one of the most controversial trade policies of the last year and has sent shockwaves through global markets.

Immediately following the ruling, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, alongside a coalition of major business leaders, demanded that the federal government issue $13.5 billion in refunds for tariffs already collected. They argue that the "illegal" taxes have crippled local industries and caused unnecessary price hikes for consumers. This legal victory for the states is expected to trigger a wave of similar lawsuits from other regions and industries seeking financial restitution for the billions paid in duties.

In response to the court's decision and the lack of international support for military actions in the Middle East, President Trump has threatened to end all U.S. trade with Spain. He accused the Spanish government of "betrayal" for denying base access during the strikes on Iran. This combination of domestic legal setbacks and aggressive foreign trade threats has created a period of intense economic uncertainty for international businesses and trade partners.
