A second Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) evacuation flight arrived at Singapore's Paya Lebar Air Base at 5:59 a.m. today, carrying citizens and other nationals fleeing the conflict in West Asia. The RSAF A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) was deployed to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to provide a safe exit for those stranded. Singapore officials confirmed that extra seats on the flight were offered to other nationals as part of a broader humanitarian effort to assist regional neighbors during the crisis.

Parallel to the evacuations, officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are holding emergency meetings to address the conflict's impact on regional food and energy security. With over a third of the region's oil and gas sourced from the Middle East, leaders are working to ensure supply chains remain resilient against further shocks. In Malaysia, the government has cancelled all Aidilfitri open house celebrations this year to practice fiscal discipline and prudent spending amid the global economic uncertainty.

Economic tensions are also rising elsewhere, as Singapore disputes U.S. claims of a $27 billion trade surplus. The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) is seeking clarification from Washington following a probe into unfair trade practices involving 60 countries. This diplomatic friction adds another layer of complexity to a global market already reeling from the Middle East war and rising inflation concerns, which have caused gold prices to plummet today as investors shift toward the U.S. dollar.
