The Malaysian government today announced that the MyDigital ID system has officially surpassed 5 million registrations as of Monday, 16 March 2026. This milestone comes as the Ministry of Digital begins the full integration of the ID system with major government portals, including the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Officials stated that this move is designed to eliminate the need for multiple passwords and provide a highly secure, single-sign-on experience for all citizens.
To encourage further adoption, the government has introduced a "Digital First" incentive, where citizens using MyDigital ID for certain transactions such as road tax renewals or business license applications will receive a small rebate or expedited processing. The CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) agency also confirmed that the system’s encrypted biometric verification has successfully thwarted over 10,000 identity theft attempts since the start of the year. This rollout is a core part of Malaysia’s transition toward a fully paperless and digitally driven administration.
Despite the progress, the Ministry is addressing concerns regarding digital inclusivity for the elderly and those in rural areas like East Malaysia. Mobile registration units have been deployed to community centers and post offices across Sabah and Sarawak to assist those without smartphones or reliable internet access. As the system expands, the government plans to integrate MyDigital ID with private sector services, including banking and healthcare, to create a seamless digital ecosystem for all Malaysians by the end of 2026.
