A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Afghanistan today as the death toll from an airstrike on a Kabul hospital has reportedly climbed to 400 people. The facility, which primarily treated drug users, was hit during a series of strikes on Monday that targeted multiple locations in eastern Afghanistan. While Afghan officials have blamed the Pakistani military for the tragedy, Pakistan has countered these claims by stating their operations only targeted militant sites and not civilian infrastructure.

The Afghan Health Ministry initially reported over 200 fatalities, but that number has doubled as rescue teams continue to clear debris from the heavily damaged medical complex. Witnesses describe scenes of absolute chaos as hospital staff and patients were caught in the crossfire of the regional conflict. International humanitarian organizations are calling for an immediate independent investigation into the incident, citing it as a potential violation of international law regarding the protection of medical facilities.

The strike has further strained the already fragile relationship between Kabul and Islamabad, with both sides trading accusations of border violations. This escalation follows weeks of cross-border skirmishes that have displaced thousands of civilians in the mountainous frontier regions. As the casualty count rises, there are growing fears that this incident could trigger a wider regional war, drawing in neighboring powers and further destabilizing Central Asia.
