Traffic heading toward the East Coast from the Klang Valley has seen significant build-ups starting early this morning as travellers begin their Hari Raya Aidilfitri journey. The congestion is primarily concentrated between Gombak and Genting Sempah, as well as from Bukit Tinggi to Lentang. This surge follows the government’s activation of a 50% toll discount for all major highways, which began at midnight and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow to ease the financial burden on families.
Authorities from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expect traffic volume to intensify further from midday, with an estimated 3.49 million vehicles expected on major highways during this festive period. While traffic flow toward the North and South remains generally smooth, a broken-down lorry caused minor delays between Bandar Baharu and Jawi earlier today. Motorists are being urged to strictly adhere to speed limits and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents during the heavy rush.
To manage the volume, PLUS Malaysia has activated 34 smart lanes at high-risk locations nationwide to facilitate smoother movement. The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) has also intensified its advocacy and enforcement through "Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026," aiming for a 10% reduction in road accidents. Officials remind drivers that their presence on the ground is intended to boost the "perception of being caught" (POBC) to encourage more cautious driving.
