The Selangor state government has officially implemented a Work From Home (WFH) policy every Friday for its civil servants, effective today. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that this initiative aims to improve the work-life balance of state employees while reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions in the Klang Valley. The policy follows a successful three month pilot program that showed no drop in administrative productivity.

To ensure public services remain uninterrupted, all state departments have transitioned to enhanced digital platforms for citizen queries and permit processing. Essential frontline services, such as healthcare and emergency response, are exempt from the WFH mandate and continue to operate on site. The state government plans to review the impact of this "hybrid" model at the end of the year to determine if it can be expanded to other sectors.

This move has been met with praise from the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC), which suggests that Selangor is setting a modern benchmark for the public sector. However, some business groups have raised concerns about the potential impact on local economies that rely on the presence of office workers. The state government is monitoring these economic shifts closely while encouraging private companies to consider similar flexible arrangements.
