President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a scathing statement condemning Russia for what he termed "absolute cynicism" following a series of deadly missile strikes on the city of Dnipro. The attacks, which claimed the lives of at least four civilians and injured dozens more, occurred just hours before a proposed humanitarian ceasefire was set to take effect. Zelenskyy argued that the timing of the strikes proves that Moscow has no genuine interest in de-escalation or diplomatic negotiations.

Rescue teams in Dnipro have been working through the rubble of residential buildings and a local medical facility that were severely damaged in the blasts. Local officials reported that the strikes caused significant fires and disrupted power supplies to several neighborhoods, complicating emergency efforts. The Ukrainian government has called on the international community to provide more advanced air defense systems to protect civilian hubs from such "deliberate acts of terror.”

In response to the escalation, several Western allies have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, with new rounds of military aid being fast-tracked to the front lines. The Kremlin has not yet issued a formal comment on the Dnipro incident, but the breakdown of the planned ceasefire has dimmed hopes for a peaceful resolution in the near term. As tensions mount, the UN Human Rights Council has announced plans to dispatch a fact-finding mission to investigate the impact of the latest strikes on civilian infrastructure.
