A 29-year-old coffee shop assistant, S. Prasaanndh, was charged in two separate Magistrate's Courts in George Town today following a high-speed police pursuit. The incident, which occurred on April 30, saw the suspect allegedly ramming into 12 different vehicles while attempting to evade capture. He faced a total of 14 charges, including obstructing a public servant and reckless driving, but he pleaded not guilty to all counts.
The dramatic chase began in Green Lane when police spotted a suspicious vehicle and ordered the driver to pull over. Instead of complying, the suspect led officers on a 20-kilometre pursuit that spanned from Gurney Drive all the way to Bayan Baru. Video footage of the silver Kia Forte weaving through traffic and crashing into other cars went viral on social media, highlighting the danger posed to the public during the hour-long ordeal.
The court set bail at RM14,000 for the various offences and ordered the suspect to report to the nearest police station once a month until the case is resolved. If found guilty of reckless driving, he faces up to five years in prison and a significant fine, along with a mandatory driving ban. The case has been adjourned to mid-June for the submission of documents and further legal proceedings.
