KUALA LUMPUR: The national junior shuttlers concluded their campaign at the Malaysia Junior International Challenge with three titles at the Titiwangsa Stadium on Sunday.

Second seeds Irfan Shazmir M. Shazmir-Nur Aina Maisarah Hatta kicked off Malaysia's title run by upsetting top seeds Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad-Teh Si Yan 21-12, 21-18 in 31 minutes in the mixed doubles final.

Redzuan bounced back hours later in the men's doubles final, partnering Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim to beat compatriots Damien Ling-Irfan 21-18, 21-10 in 39 minutes.

"There was a bit of disappointment after losing the first final. But I knew I still had another match, so I didn't want to dwell on it," said Redzuan. "I have to thank my partner because he kept encouraging me on court and reminded me not to think about what had already happened.

"I knew that if I stayed disappointed, I wouldn't be able to perform, so I had to let go of those negative feelings first."

Redzuan said a tactical shift in the second final proved decisive after they made early errors.

"At the beginning, we were trying to win points too quickly and made too many mistakes because we weren't thinking enough," he said.

"We changed our strategy by being more patient and extending the rallies. Thank God, the tactical change worked and we managed to overcome them."

Meanwhile, Tiew Wei Jie recorded Malaysia's third title after upsetting second seed Punnatat Prempunpong of Thailand 21-16, 21-11 in 47 minutes in the men's singles final.
