KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s success in surpassing its five-gold-medal target at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which conclude tomorrow, reflects the strength of the country’s sports ecosystem, said Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

He said the achievement was the result of close collaboration between his ministry, the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the Paralympic Council of Malaysia, the national sports associations and all parties committed to developing high-performance sports in the country.

“On behalf of everyone at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Malaysian contingent on its outstanding achievement at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“This success is the result of the dedication, discipline, fighting spirit and extraordinary sacrifices of our athletes, coaches and the entire contingent in bringing honour to the nation,” he said in a statement today.

As of today, the Malaysian contingent has won seven gold, three silver and three bronze medals, surpassing its initial target of five gold, two silver and four bronze medals for the quadrennial Games, which began on July 23.
