Batu Caves in Gombak, Selangor, is undeniably one of Malaysia's most famous landmarks, frequently featured in Tourism Malaysia campaigns and a must-see for visitors to our country.
The famed Batu caves are renowned for their impressive natural limestone formations, the towering 43-meter golden statue of the Hindu deity Lord Murugan, the various Hindu temples, and the vibrant 272 steps leading to the cave.
The 272-step ascent at Batu Caves is certainly a challenge. Recently, it was recognized as one of the world's most physically demanding landmarks. A report by British health club chain PureGym ranked Batu Caves 4th in Asia and 10th globally among the top 25 most challenging tourist spots, with an 'exertion' score of 40 out of 100.
It's noteworthy that several tourist spots in the ranking have more steps than Batu Caves, yet this Malaysian landmark ranks higher due to its average temperature.
