PUTRAJAYA, Sept 19 — The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported receiving 2,575 emergency calls about fallen trees from January to July this year, with Selangor experiencing the highest incidence.
According to JBPM, Selangor had 441 cases of fallen trees, followed by Perak with 321 and Sarawak with 264. The incidents resulted in eight fatalities, 27 injuries, and 37 rescues without harm.
JBPM has urged the public, especially drivers, to stay alert during adverse weather conditions. They advise motorists to be cautious near roads with large or old trees and to remain calm if an accident occurs. Drivers should turn off their engines and seek help from bystanders or contact the emergency hotline at 999.
