IPOH, Sept 18 — Two low-ranking policemen in Perak have been suspended from duty effective today due to their involvement in drug and ketum abuse. Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris confirmed that the two officers, aged 41 and 39, were remanded on September 13 under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Datuk Azizi stated that disciplinary measures have been taken against the officers, who are part of the Perak police force. He addressed the media following a ceremony honoring retiring and upcoming retirees of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building.

Earlier reports on social media revealed that seven police officers were arrested by the Intelligence and Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) during a raid at a house in Tanjung Rambutan. The 1:30 am operation uncovered that the detained officers were involved in processing and selling ketum water and dealing in contraband cigarettes while neglecting their official duties.
