KOTA BARU, Sept 28 — The Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI Fatwa Committee) will issue only legal opinions regarding GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), not a fatwa, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr. Mohd Na’im Mokhtar. He stated that each state will determine the fatwa based on its jurisdiction. The MKI Fatwa Committee has completed discussions on the GISBH issue, with results set to be presented to the Conference of Rulers on October 23 and 24 for approval. This follows a police raid on September 11 of 20 charity homes linked to GISBH, which revealed cases of child exploitation and abuse, leading to over 300 arrests and the rescue of 572 victims.
