KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9* — Malaysia and Kuwait have agreed that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly in Palestine and southern Lebanon, should be resolved through peaceful negotiations and in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
This agreement was reached during a meeting between Malaysia's Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, where they exchanged views on the conflict.
Mohamed Khaled, leading a Malaysian delegation on his first official visit to Kuwait from October 6-10, emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in supporting Malaysia's Defence Strategy, particularly in fostering credible partnerships for national security and global peace.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base and attended an official dinner hosted by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. Earlier, Mohamed Khaled met with Sheikh Fahad, who also serves as Kuwait’s Defence Minister.
The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, including military collaboration, information exchange, and defence technology. The two countries are nearing the final stages of negotiating a “Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation,” expected to be signed in Kuala Lumpur by 2025.
Additionally, Mohamed Khaled expressed interest in discussing the acquisition of F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter jets from the Kuwait Air Force for the Royal Malaysian Air Force, aiming to boost Malaysia’s air defence capabilities. Both leaders also addressed regional and international issues, particularly concerning the security situation in the Middle East.
