Haas F1 Team Announces Multi-Year Technical Partnership with Toyota, Marking Japan's Return to F1*
AUSTIN, Oct 11 — The US-based Haas Formula One team has confirmed a multi-year technical partnership with Toyota, marking the Japanese carmaker’s return to grand prix racing for the first time since 2009.
While Haas will continue to use Ferrari power units through 2028, the collaboration with Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota's motorsport division, starts immediately. The Toyota branding will be seen on the VF-24 cars driven by Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen during the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin.
Toyota will serve as Haas’s official technical partner, offering design, technical, and manufacturing support. The partnership will allow both teams to share knowledge and resources, strengthening Haas’s competitiveness in Formula One.
Team Principal Ayao Komatsu expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "To have a world leader like Toyota work alongside us and help accelerate our development is a clear win for both sides."
The partnership will also focus on developing drivers, engineers, and mechanics. Toyota, active in rally and endurance racing, has access to a state-of-the-art wind tunnel in Germany, used previously by McLaren.
Haas will field an all-new lineup next year with experienced Frenchman Esteban Ocon and British rookie Oliver Bearman.
Toyota previously entered Formula One with its own team in 2002 but never won a race, though they supplied engines to Williams from 2007 to 2009. Meanwhile, Honda, a former F1 partner, is set to start a new exclusive partnership with Aston Martin in 2026.
