Sultan Ibrahim Appointed UiTM’s Seventh Chancellor*

SHAH ALAM, Nov 13* — Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, was officially proclaimed the seventh Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) today in a special ceremony held at the Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor on the university’s main campus, coinciding with UiTM’s 100th Convocation Ceremony.

The proclamation document was presented to Sultan Ibrahim by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who referenced Section 19A (2) of the Universiti Teknologi MARA Act 1976 (Act 173), which designates the King as the Chancellor. As per the Act, His Majesty will preside over the university’s convocations.

The ceremony was attended by UiTM Pro-Chancellor Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and UiTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib. The event also saw Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah receive an Honorary Doctorate in Creative Arts.

Dr Shahrin expressed gratitude for Sultan Ibrahim’s appointment in his address, emphasizing UiTM’s ongoing commitment to producing skilled graduates who can contribute to Malaysia’s development. He also expressed hope that under the King’s patronage, UiTM will continue to promote academic excellence and scholarship.
