Former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin has passed away at the age of 86, with his death confirmed this morning by his lawyer, Datuk Gurdial Singh Nijar. His burial is scheduled for later today.

Daim, a prominent Umno politician and businessman, served as Malaysia's finance minister in two terms—first from 1984 to 1991 and again from 1999 to 2001. He was instrumental in guiding the country through economic challenges, most notably the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

After the 2018 Pakatan Harapan (PH) electoral victory, when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad became prime minister, Daim chaired the Council of Eminent Persons, a body tasked with reforming the country’s policies following decades of Barisan Nasional rule.
