SINGAPORE, Nov 17 — A 42-year-old Singaporean woman was sentenced to three weeks in jail for attempting to bribe an auxiliary police officer at Woodlands Checkpoint on July 17. Wang Xiping had entered the bus lane while driving toward Johor Baru, violating traffic rules. When an officer instructed her to return to the correct lane, she offered RM50, then S$50 (RM166), hoping to avoid punishment.

The officer rejected the bribe, informed her that the interaction was recorded, and asked for her passport. Wang was arrested shortly after. During questioning, she claimed she mistook the officer for a Malaysian police officer and acted out of anxiety and poor language skills, thinking the officer wanted more money.

Despite her explanation, the prosecution recommended a sentence of three to four weeks. Wang, who is responsible for four children, including an infant, pleaded for leniency and a delay in her sentence to arrange care for her children. The judge granted her request to postpone the sentence until November 18.
