Penang Police Bust Local Drug Syndicate, Seize RM3M Worth of Narcotics and Arrest Six"
GEORGE TOWN, Dec 16 — Penang police dismantled a local drug syndicate with the arrest of six individuals, including two women, and the seizure of drugs worth RM3 million. The arrests followed raids on December 6 and 13 at several locations in George Town, Butterworth, and a luxury condo in Sungai Nibong.
During the first series of raids on December 6, officers confiscated 9.8 kg of ketamine, 17,050 Eramin 5 pills, 1.5 kg of ecstasy, 250.64 grams of MDMA, and 3.2 grams of cannabis, valued at RM1.34 million. A follow-up raid on December 13 led to the discovery of 55,250 Eramin 5 pills, 382 grams of ketamine, and 50 ecstasy pills worth RM1.64 million in a luxury condominium linked to the syndicate.
Investigations revealed the group had been operating since early 2023, sourcing drugs from an international cartel for distribution at local entertainment venues. In addition to the drugs, police seized nine vehicles worth RM755,500, RM26,085 in cash, RM64,703 in bank accounts, and RM800 in jewelry.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 42, have been remanded until December 20 for further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
