Three Killed in Mersing Head-On Collision, Driver’s Daughter Injured
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — A tragic head-on collision on the Kota Tinggi-Mersing Road near Ladang Arami Jaya claimed the lives of three family members last night. The accident, involving a Toyota Vios and a Proton Persona, occurred around 8:30pm.
Mersing police said that Md Yusuf Mukhtar, 71, and his wife, Rosnah Salleh, 65, died at the scene, while their son, 36-year-old driver Muhamad Izuddin Md Yusof, succumbed to head injuries at Mersing Hospital. A five-year-old girl, also in the Proton Persona, sustained head injuries but is in stable condition at Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 28-year-old driver of the Toyota Vios lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the Proton Persona. The Vios driver suffered serious injuries and is being treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The victims' bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The Mersing Fire and Rescue Department responded quickly to the scene, with the help of public volunteers.
