Kelantan Man Weighing 420kg Laid to Rest with Help of Firefighters and Villagers

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Sheikh Mohd Ali Omar, who weighed 420kg, was laid to rest at Kampung Jaya Islamic Cemetery in Pasir Hor, Kelantan, at 11:20pm last night. The burial, which took nearly an hour, was made possible with the help of 20 firefighters and local villagers.

The body, requiring a five-tonne lorry for transport, was carefully moved from Sheikh Ali’s home to the cemetery. Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, Mohd Wildan Azhari, thanked the community for their assistance, including the use of a self-made trolley to transport the body.

The family initially faced difficulties arranging the funeral due to the deceased's weight and the absence of a health confirmation letter. After media coverage, the fire department, NGOs, and local residents stepped in to fulfill the communal burial obligation. Around 100 villagers attended the emotional ceremony.
