Twelve Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students have been remanded for four days to aid investigations into the alleged assault of a fellow student, which left him seriously injured.

The incident, which took place early Sunday at the UMT Male Residential College, saw the 21-year-old accounting student reportedly beaten, strangled, kicked, and struck with a blunt object, including a wooden stick now seized as evidence.

Police believe the attack was triggered by accusations involving the victim’s conduct, though details remain undisclosed. Medical reports show the victim suffered bruises but no internal injuries or fractures. He remains under observation.

The suspects tested negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons
