Two Fishermen Missing After Boat Engine Failure Off Kerachut, Search Launched

BALIK PULAU — Two local fishermen have gone missing after their boat, which experienced engine failure, drifted off Kerachut, Kuala Sungai Pinang on Monday night.

According to Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when the fishermen, aged 22 and 25, contacted friends to report the failure. However, by the time their friends arrived an hour later to assist, the boat and fishermen were no longer at the location.

A search and rescue operation was launched at midnight, involving the Civil Defence Force, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Marine Police, and local fishermen.

The missing fishermen were not registered with the local fishermen's association and were believed to have gone out independently. The boat they were on, a red and blue vessel, was also not registered.

A family member reported their disappearance around 6 pm the following day.
