Kuantan food trader's murder: Pawnshop worker released on police bail

KUANTAN: The 42-year-old pawnshop worker, who was detained to assist police investigations into the murder of a female trader on Feb 13, has been released on police bail.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the man, who was picked by policemen at his workplace in Kuala Terengganu on Feb 15, was freed on Feb 17.

"The pawnshop employee was remanded to assist police after investigations showed that the murder suspect had visited the premises in Kuala Terengganu to pawn a gold bracelet.

"We have completed recording the worker's statement over the incident.

"The remand on the sole murder suspect was today(Feb 21) extended for a week till Feb 28. We are not expecting to make any further arrest," he said in a text message today.

The pawnshop worker was detained for investigations several hours after police arrested the prime suspect, 53, at Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu about 5.30am on Feb 15.
