PETALING JAYA: Malaysiakini journalist B Nantha Kumar, arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe from a foreign workers’ agent, has been released on bail.
Nantha, who was detained for soliciting RM100,000 from the agent in exchange for not publishing articles, was granted bail after his RM10,000 bond was posted by Malaysiakini executive editor RK Anand.
MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed Nantha’s arrest and clarified that it was unrelated to the news portal's article on foreign worker trafficking. The probe into the syndicate facilitating foreign worker entry continues.
Malaysiakini has vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegation against Nantha, stressing its commitment to uncovering the truth while protecting whistleblowers involved in his reporting. Nantha, a journalist since 2018, has covered issues related to migrant worker syndicates.
