KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian citizen was arrested by Thai security forces for his involvement in a gold shop robbery in Hat Yai last Wednesday. It has been confirmed that the 62-year-old man, from Kulim, Kedah, has 10 past criminal records in Malaysia, including two warrants from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for murder and Section 3(1) of the Emergency Ordinance 1969.
The Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated that PDRM is currently reviewing the investigation papers related to the crimes committed by the man in Malaysia before proceeding with the extradition process.
However, he mentioned that PDRM is currently leaving the suspect in the custody of Thai authorities for further investigation of the robbery case in Thailand.
"We (the police) were informed of the suspect's arrest as soon as he was detained in Bangkok for armed robbery in Hat Yai. The suspect is still being held in Hat Yai's lock-up for further investigation, while we are reviewing the crimes committed in Malaysia for extradition action, and then taking action against the man for his offenses in the neighboring country," he said on Monday.
Razarudin also stated that the man no longer resides in Malaysia and had been using fake documents to hide in the neighboring country. During his arrest, the man was found in possession of a fake Thai identity card, and no Malaysian MyKad or passport was found with him.
