Malaysia and Thailand have elevated their bilateral ties, with both Prime Ministers—Anwar Ibrahim and Srettha Thavisin committed to strengthening cooperation. Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa highlighted the growing momentum, noting strong collaboration in trade, investment, and human security, especially in border areas.During the 46th ASEAN Summit, Anwar emphasized that regular communication between the leaders has boosted mutual understanding and paved the way for strategic cooperation. In 2024, Thailand ranked as Malaysia’s 7th largest global trade partner, with bilateral trade reaching over US$25 billion.Both nations are prioritizing joint development in border regions, including infrastructure and the integration of Special Border Economic Zones (SBEZs), aiming to boost cross-border trade and investment. They also plan to hold a joint Cabinet meeting later this year in the border area of Satun–Bukit Kayu Hitam.
