PUTRAJAYA — Malaysia and Poland have pledged to strengthen Asean-EU relations, using their respective chairmanships — Malaysia for Asean this year and Poland for the EU Council in early 2025 — to boost long-term interregional cooperation.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, after meeting Polish President Andrzej Duda, said talks focused on advancing Asean-EU ties, particularly reviving free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations which had previously stalled. Anwar noted recent progress and welcomed the EU's renewed commitment.
President Duda highlighted efforts to deepen collaboration between Malaysia and Central European nations through the Three Seas Initiative. He also invited Anwar to participate in future summits under the initiative, aimed at boosting connectivity and economic ties between the EU and Asean.
