PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has called for greater protection of Indigenous land rights in Sarawak following the death of Native Customary Rights (NCR) activist Dennis. Honouring his legacy, she urged Malaysians to support the Orang Asal communities, who face ongoing land encroachment and displacement.
Quoting the Sarawak rallying cry “Agi idup, agi ngelaban” (As long as there is life, the fight continues), Nurul Izzah highlighted how Indigenous groups view land as vital to their identity and survival. She criticised ongoing logging and plantation expansions and called for faster surveying of NCR land, fair compensation, and proper consent before development.
She urged national unity in defending Indigenous rights, stating that true justice requires listening to and protecting these communities.
