Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially proposed a new law to limit the tenure of the Prime Minister to two full terms, or a maximum of 10 years. The proposal, a key part of the government’s reform agenda, aims to prevent the concentration of power and encourage leadership renewal within the country.

While a similar attempt was made previously but dropped, Anwar’s administration is now seeking a constitutional amendment to solidify this limit. Political analysts suggest this could be a landmark reform for Malaysian democracy, though it will require a two-thirds majority in Parliament to pass. Public feedback on the proposal has been generally positive, viewing it as a move toward better governance.
