The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) issued a statement today confirming that Malaysia remains free of the Nipah virus. This announcement comes as a reassurance to the public following recent cases reported in neighbouring regions. The DVS emphasized that it maintains continuous surveillance of pig farms and wildlife to prevent any zoonotic disease outbreaks, working closely with the Ministry of Health to preserve this status.

While some neighbouring countries have begun easing measures as their local conditions stabilise, Malaysian authorities are not letting their guard down. The World Health Organization (WHO) has currently assessed the risk of a widespread Nipah outbreak as low, but continuous monitoring is advised. Local health officials continue to urge farmers and the public to maintain high biosecurity standards to ensure the virus does not re-emerge.
