Wired, through 9 to 5Mac, reported that tech giants such as Apple and Nvidia have utilized YouTube videos to train AI models without obtaining consent. They accomplished this by extracting subtitle data from 173,536 videos across more than 48,000 channels, including those of influencers like MKBHD (Marques Brownlee), MrBeast, PewDiePie, and Stephen Colbert.
Just so you know, YouTube's terms of service explicitly prohibit using its data for training AI models. Responding to the news on X, Brownlee mentioned that Apple managed to sidestep responsibility by not directly scraping the data themselves. Nevertheless, there is widespread concern that unauthorized data use will persist as a significant issue in the era of AI.
