KUALA LANGAT — Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri assured that the expanded Sales and Service Tax (SST) will not significantly impact parents sending their children to private nurseries, kindergartens, or preschools.

She explained that the 6% service tax, effective July 1, only applies to institutions charging more than RM60,000 in annual tuition per student — a threshold most private centres don’t meet.

Nancy urged operators not to use the tax changes as an excuse to overcharge parents, reminding them to act responsibly and support working families. She also noted that the tax does not apply to Malaysian children with disabilities.

She made these remarks during the Anjung Sinar 2025 Programme appreciation event, where five individuals were honoured for excellence in education, leadership, community work, careers, and volunteering.
