GAZA CITY — The director of Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital, Dr Marwan Al-Sultan, was killed along with his wife, daughters, and son-in-law in an Israeli strike on his Gaza City apartment, Palestinian officials and witnesses said Wednesday.
Gaza’s civil defence agency confirmed seven deaths in the afternoon strike, including Sultan and at least three of his children. His body was brought to Al-Shifa Hospital, where colleagues and family mourned him.
“His whole life was dedicated to treating patients. There’s no justification for killing him,” said his surviving daughter Lubna.
Hamas and Gaza’s health ministry condemned the attack on medical personnel as a “heinous crime”. The Indonesian Hospital’s managing group called it a grave violation of humanitarian principles.
The Israeli military said it targeted “a key Hamas terrorist” in Gaza City and is reviewing reports of civilian casualties.
In May, Israeli forces also targeted the Indonesian Hospital, destroying its generators, Gaza’s health ministry said.
