GAZA — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Wednesday to destroy Hamas, rejecting calls for a 60-day ceasefire proposed by mediators and reportedly supported by the US.

Speaking ahead of a planned visit to Washington, Netanyahu declared: “We will eliminate Hamas and free our hostages. Hamas will be no more.”

Hamas confirmed it is reviewing the Qatar- and Egypt-brokered proposal, which reportedly offers a 60-day truce in exchange for the release of some Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

Meanwhile, Israeli strikes on Gaza killed at least 47 people on Wednesday, including the Indonesian Hospital’s director and his family, and hit several areas designated as safe zones, according to Palestinian officials.

The war, sparked by Hamas’s October 2023 attack that killed over 1,200 Israelis, has left more than 57,000 Palestinians dead, most of them civilians, Gaza’s health ministry said.

Israeli forces continue urging evacuations and intensifying operations in Gaza City, while the military says it is dismantling Hamas in compliance with international law and minimizing civilian harm.
