SINGAPORE — A 50-year-old man, Chia Hiok Seah, told a court he acted out of fear when he drove off with his lover’s enraged husband clinging to his car bonnet during a late-night confrontation in a Sengkang carpark.
Chia is on trial for a rash act endangering life, after Goh Yong Sern fell and suffered facial injuries. He also faces a public nudity charge, which he plans to admit.
The incident happened at 2am on June 29, 2023, when Goh caught Chia and his wife, Shunyi, naked in a parked car at Compassvale Bow. Chia claimed Goh was “red with anger… like he wanted to kill,” and jumped onto the bonnet, trying to smash the windscreen.
Chia said he drove away to protect himself and Shunyi, but stopped at the gantry when Goh refused to get off. Calling the episode “very unfortunate,” he said, “I never thought I’d end up here.”
He faces up to a year in jail or a S$5,000 fine for the rash act, and up to three months’ jail or a S$2,000 fine for public nudity.
