BALING — Authorities have confirmed that a viral video claiming a cable car connects Baling, Kedah to Pengkalan Hulu, Perak is fake and AI-generated.

Baling District Officer Yazlan Sunardie said no such project exists and urged the public not to fall for convincing digital content. “It doesn’t exist, but who knows — maybe someday,” he added.

The video, styled as a news segment about the fictitious “Kuak SkyRide,” went viral on TikTok and Facebook, tricking a Kuala Lumpur couple into driving over 300km to experience it. A hotel worker in Gerik recounted how she broke the news to the shocked couple, who even considered suing the fake “reporter.”

Acting Baling police chief Ahmad Salimi Md Ali confirmed no complaints of fraud were filed but reminded the public to verify online content before sharing or acting on it. Legal action could be taken if such videos cause public concern or disorder.
