KUANTAN — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has finalised updated guidelines for the beauty industry and will soon present them to the Cabinet, Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh announced yesterday.
The revised guidelines, first introduced in 2013, have been improved in line with industry growth and feedback from stakeholders and the Health Ministry. They aim to make the sector more professional, ethical, and safer for consumers, while supporting its RM13.5 billion contribution to the economy in 2023.
Key updates include clearer rules on the use of machines like lasers and HIFU, specifying when medical professionals are required. Since 2023, only a handful of complaints about skin damage and treatment packages have been received, she noted.
Over 28,000 beauty businesses are registered, and KPDN will keep strengthening oversight to help the sector grow in a well-organised, competitive way
