PUTRAJAYA — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has praised the high compliance with seatbelt rules among express and tour bus passengers and drivers, with only 0.25% of those checked fined since enforcement began on July 1.

JPJ’s Zulkarnain Yasin said 123,706 passengers and drivers were inspected across 3,257 buses nationwide — 2,459 express and 798 tour buses — with just 305 summonses issued: 238 to express bus passengers, 43 to tour bus passengers, and 24 to drivers.

He urged all to continue prioritising seatbelt use for safety. The new rule, mandatory for all on buses manufactured after January 2020, carries a RM300 fine for non-compliance, with operators also liable if they fail to ensure passenger safety.
