HUNT, Texas — Devastating floods in Texas have killed at least 43 people, including 15 children, with 27 girls still missing from a riverside summer camp, officials confirmed yesterday.

The disaster struck after torrential rains caused the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in just 45 minutes, sweeping away homes, cars, and parts of two girls’ camps in Kerr County.

Sheriff Larry Leitha said over 850 people were evacuated, and search efforts by air, land, and water crews continue for the missing, many from Camp Mystic, where four girls have already been confirmed dead.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott expanded the state’s disaster declaration and requested federal aid, as flash flood warnings remain in effect and more rain is forecast.

Local residents described the destruction as catastrophic, with debris-strewn rivers and shattered cabins. “We’ve had floods, but nothing like this,” said one resident.

Kerrville officials urged the community to brace for more tough days as rescue efforts continue.
