Columbia University will pay over US$200 million to settle investigations launched under President Trump’s administration and restore most of its suspended federal funding.

In March 2025, the Trump administration cut $400 million in grants, citing Columbia’s inadequate response to antisemitism during pro-Palestinian campus protests. Under the new deal, most funding will be reinstated, and the university's access to future grants restored.

Columbia also agreed to a $21 million settlement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and made changes aligning with Trump administration demands—such as adopting a broader definition of antisemitism and severing ties with the Columbia University Apartheid Divest group.

The settlement preserves Columbia’s autonomy over faculty, admissions, and academics. Rights groups, however, continue to raise concerns about academic freedom and free speech amid growing federal pressure on universities over campus protests.
