Malaysia's Khiew Hoe Yean finished 28th out of 43 swimmers in the men's 400m freestyle preliminaries at the Singapore World Aquatics Championships today, clocking 3:51.11. He missed the top-eight cut for the final. Hoe Yean, who recently won silver and set a new national record (3:47.38s) at the World University Games in Berlin, attributed his performance to jet lag and lack of pool time. He is set to compete in the 100m, 200m, and 800m freestyle events.
In diving, Elvis Clement and Lee Yiat Qing placed 11th out of 12 duos in the mixed 10m platform synchronized final with a total of 247.86 points. China's Zhu Yonxin and Xie Peiling won gold (323.04). In the men's 1m springboard preliminaries, Yong Rui Jie (283.90) and Nurqayyum Nazim (274.35) finished 41st and 44th respectively out of 59 starters.
Tomorrow, Nurqayyum and Rui Jie will compete in the men's 3m springboard synchronized event, while Pandelela Rinong and Yiat Qing will be in the women's 10m platform synchronized event. Hoe Yean will also race in the men's 200m freestyle.
