Kuala Lumpur has been ranked as the most sustainable city in Asia for 2026 by the Global Urban Index. The ranking cited the city's massive expansion of green lungs, the transition of 80% of public buses to electric, and the "Forest in the City" initiative.
The Mayor of KL stated that this recognition is the result of five years of strict environmental policies. The city now aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the national target.
