YouTube Music is upping its game with a thrilling new AI feature enabling users to generate custom radio stations by asking. Discovered by the sharp-eyed Reddit user kater_pro, this experimental feature is now being rolled out to a fortunate few.
Upon its full release, the new feature will introduce an 'Ask for music any way you like' card on the Home feed. This card, shown in vibrant purple and pink colors, resembles the current 'Create a radio: Your music tuner' card found in the Library tab. By selecting this card, users will access a chat-based interface where they can request music using either voice or keyboard.
The interface provides a range of suggested prompts like 'Catchy pop choruses,' 'Epic soundtracks,' and 'Upbeat pop anthems,' along with a 'Surprise me!' option for a randomly generated station. Once a prompt is entered, the AI creates a radio station, displayed in the familiar playlist card format. The station is named after the prompt and labeled 'Created for you,' complete with a matching description. YouTube Music includes a note that 'AI-generated responses are experimental,' indicating that the quality and accuracy may vary, and advises users not to share personal or confidential information.
As a few fortunate users test it out it will be fascinating to see how YouTube Music’s new AI-generated playlists compare with Spotify’s own efforts.
